Responsible
Tim Scott
U.S. Senator — South Carolina · Chairman, Senate Banking Committee
Voted to certify both states on January 6, 2021, having said that morning that he had supported the president's right to pursue lawful challenges but that no judge or fact finder had found evidence the results should be overturned. He has restated that position since, including in 2024. He then voted to acquit at the second impeachment trial and to block the independent commission on the attack. At the 2024 convention he called the president an American lion. In the second term he chairs the Senate Banking Committee, where he has carried the administration's nominees through, and chairs the party's Senate campaign arm for the 2026 midterms.
