Responsible
Lindsey Graham
U.S. Senator — South Carolina, 2003–2026
Telephoned Georgia's Secretary of State twice in the weeks after the 2020 election. The Secretary of State said Graham asked whether he could discard all mail ballots from counties with high rates of signature mismatch; Graham denied suggesting it. On the night of January 6, 2021 he told the Senate "count me out, enough is enough", voted to certify, and said Joe Biden was lawfully elected. He then voted to acquit at the second impeachment trial, voted to block the independent commission on the attack, fought a Fulton County subpoena to the Supreme Court before testifying for two hours, and was named in the special grand jury's report among those it recommended be charged. He was not charged. He returned to the president's side and was central to the second term's policy and staffing until his death on July 11, 2026, aged 71.
