Responsible
Josh Hawley
U.S. Senator — Missouri
The first Republican senator to announce he would object, on December 30, 2020, and the senator who led the objection to Pennsylvania's electoral votes. On the morning of January 6 he raised a fist to the crowd gathered outside the Capitol; a Capitol Police officer later testified that the gesture riled that crowd, and security footage released afterwards shows him running from it inside the building hours later. He voted to sustain both objections. His publisher cancelled his book that week and he placed it with another; he has since sold merchandise printed with the photograph of the raised fist, and says he regrets nothing about that day.
