Responsible
John Neely Kennedy
U.S. Senator — Louisiana
Joined the senators who said before January 6 that they would refuse to count electors from the disputed states unless Congress first ordered an emergency audit. He voted to sustain the objection to Arizona's electoral votes. He did not vote to sustain the objection to Pennsylvania's the following day, and condemned the attack, saying he had come to the Capitol to give his constituents a voice.
In the second term he has carried the administration's judicial nominees through the Judiciary Committee, where his seat gives him a say over every appointment in his own state. On September 30, 2026 he defended the military action against Iran that Congress has never authorized and that his own chamber declined to take up a resolution against, saying Iran was "immeasurably weaker" and that parts of it "look like something out of Mad Max 4" — at a point when polling showed most Americans opposed the war. He has also criticized the president in public, over the sharing of a colleague's telephone number and over what the administration was campaigning on before the midterms.
