Responsible
Cindy Hyde-Smith
U.S. Senator — Mississippi
One of six senators who voted to sustain the objection to Arizona's electoral votes and one of seven who voted to sustain the objection to Pennsylvania's, both taken after the Capitol had been cleared. Her office issued a statement the same day saying she could not in good conscience support certification. Appointed to the seat in 2018 and elected that November in a runoff in which the president campaigned for her, after a recorded remark that she would be on the front row of a public hanging if invited; she said it had been a joke and apologized.
